VW and Chrysler halt production of the Routan minivan for the month of February.
So we’re right in the middle of getting pwned by our first major winter storm here in the tri-state area. I wasn’t pleased about it, but I made the trek into the office in downtown Cincinnati all the way from Fields-Ertel up north. For those of you unfamiliar with the area, it’s about a 20 mi. commute, give or take.

At the 56th International Advertising Festival “Cannes Lions 2009”, Europe’s largest automaker was presented Saturday with its first Lion in the “Advertiser of the year” discipline – thus receiving the highest accolade in the advertising industry. Volkswagen has been presented with around 150 “advertising Oscars” in Cannes since 1961. “By honoring Volkswagen today we are honoring a company that has been a symbol of creative and innovative marketing in the automobile industry for decades,” Terry Savage, Festival Chairman, said during the award ceremony. Volkswagen of America, Inc. announced that the Rabbit has once again been named one of the “Top 10 Coolest Cars Under $18,000″ by Kelley Blue Book (www.kbb.com), a top rated consumer web-site that provides vehicle pricing and information. The annual accolade acknowledges automakers for producing vehicles that emphasize performance, safety, fuel economy, interior size, and comfort. Volkswagen of America, Inc. today announced its support of the government funded ‘Cash for Clunkers’ program that will provide either $3,500 or $4,500 off the purchase price of new, more fuel efficient vehicle for consumers who trade in an older, less efficient vehicle. A vehicle in each of Volkswagen’s 2009 model lineup meets the qualifications for participation in the government sponsored program. In order to qualify, eligible new vehicles must achieve at least 22 miles-per-gallon (mpg) for automobiles, and at least 18 mpg for small light-duty trucks and SUV’s, and trade-in vehicles must achieve 18 mpg or less. Vehicle deliveries of the Volkswagen Group in May increased slightly by 1.5 percent as the Group continued to buck the trend on international automobile markets and hold its own. Total deliveries amounted to 556,700 (May 2008: 548,500)* vehicles. Volkswagen of America, Inc. today announced a collaboration with Autonet Mobile, that will make it possible to equip their European-tuned minivan, Routan, with uconnect web, an in-vehicle internet service. Beginning this month, approximately 600 Volkswagen dealerships in the United States will offer Routan owners the opportunity to add uconnect web, powered by Autonet Mobile, to their vehicle.
