40k Service: Is the Dealership Cost Worth It?

$451.00. That’s what I was quoted at a premier Cincinnati dealership to have my 40k service done on my 2003 Volkswagen GTI. Ouch! Is the excessive dealership cost worth it? More after the jump.
I’m just coming up on 40,000 miles on my 2003 GTI. From other owners’ experience, I know that if I’m going to get this maintenance interval done at a dealer, I might as well bring my own lube with me. (I don’t think we need to get any more graphic than that ;0 ) So is the cost of getting this major service done at the dealer worth the extra coin? First, let’s take a look at what’s involved.
40,000 mi. service interval per Volkswagen’s maintenance schedule in your handy-dandy manual:
* Note: This is for a 24v VR6 engine. Your list may vary slightly for your engine
- Engine Oil – change
- Engine Filter – change
- V – belt/Ribbed Belt
- Spark Plugs – replace
- Air Cleaner – replace filter
- Windshield Washer Fluid – check level
- Automatic Shift Lock – check operation
- Brake System – check damage/leaks, pad thickness, fluid level
- Wheels – rotate from front to rear
- Air Bag System – check function/damage
- Battery – check electrolyte level
- Engine – check for leaks
- Pollen Filter – replace
- Cooling System – check level
- Transmission – check for leaks
- Tires/Spare – check condition
- Driveshaft – check boots
- On Board Diagnostics – check Diagnostic Trouble Code memory
- Door Hinge – lube
- Headlights – check and adjust if necessary
- Exhaust System – check for damage and leaks
- Sunroof Frame – clean and lubricate
- Road Test – check system functions during and after
- Power Steering – check fluid level
- Brake Fluid – replace
- Check Automatic Trans. Fluid and Differential for leaks, level; add if necessary -
- Front Axle – check dust seals, ball joints, tie rods
I bolded all of the items in the list in which an actual replacement/change is made. Most of the list is check only. Granted, checking all of these things are necessary, and lead to better car health in the long run. I DO NOT recommend skipping anything. Having someone else do it for $451.00? Let’s break this down further and explore the cost of purchasing the parts yourself (shipping and tax excluded because it varies by location). You can find all of the required parts at ECS Tuning, a very good shop:
- $159.95 – ECS Tuning 40k Service Kit (Scroll to bottom of page to find kit)
- Kit includes:
- Oil filter
- Air filter
- Cabin/Interior air filter
- Fuel filter
- Drain plug with sealing washer
- Pentosin Synthetic Oil (7 quarts)
- OEM NGK spark plugs
- Other items:
- $9.49 – Pentosin Super DOT4 brake fluid
- ~$10.00 – Lube for door hinges, sunroof frame and other parts
- ~$50-80 – Various tools needed to perform job, if you don’t have them
- Your time
So around $250.00 or so depending on tax and shipping versus $451.00 in my case.
Now there are benefits to having it done at the dealer. Peace of mind, no need to worry about warranty voidage, stuff like that. But if you are the do-it-yourselfer-type, you can accomplish all of this work in about half a day at a leisurely pace in your garage. For the peace of mind part, make sure you document ALL of your receipts and inspections in your manual, preferably right on the 40k maintenance page, and you should have no warranty problems.
For the truly diligent, there are a few items that you might want to pay the dealer to do, such as checking the error codes in your computer, and the v-belt/ribbed belt. You can check the codes yourself if you have a VAG-COM and the necessary software. And you can inspect the belt yourself. But it’s better to be safer than sorry on these two items. If anything will have a chance of voiding warranty work down the road, it can be these two.
I haven’t decided what I’m going to do yet. I’m leaning toward DIY over dealer because of the cost. We’ll see how it goes down very soon.

Nielle of Sacramento quoted me $595 for the 1.8T GTI *ouch*
Hi, does anyone have thoughts on flushing the fuel injection and power steering every two years. Is it really necessary?? Just wondering if the dealer is yanking my chain, or if this servicing is truly needed for upkeep of the car.
Every two years, ehhh I would say it’s not needed. Unless your car is very high mileage? You should have your brake fluid replaced every two years, but I haven’t heard anything about the power steering and/or fuel injectors. You should replace the fuel filter every so often.
Checked this out today after they recommended the 40K service (quote was $650 in the Washington DC area) – Not! Blog was helpful for me to pick the things I was comfortable doing on my own and those services that I felt were better left to the dealer who by the way does have excellent service.
Didn’t go for the pollen filter at $70 – I’ll use more Flonase!
Hahah nice Steve. Glad we could help stave off the cost a bit. Watch that Flonase, that’s one of those addicting ones, isn’t it? :P
Well….I just dropped of my car at the dealership in Reno, NV and their quote was $521.00 for the 40k service.
Most dealers charge $70-$80 to do the computer check. I have learned over the years that the dealer maintenance packages are rip offs. Lots of checks that probably don’t even go on.
Problem is the time involved and the tools needed to DIY.
When you consider the actual work being done, it is very expensive at the dealer. Problem is the warranty void.
Does the car take synthetic oil? My 2007 Passat 2.0T does. It cost $60 for a synthetic oil change at the dealer and at the local Jiffy Lube etc.
Tune ups including spark change is usually around $120 for platinum plugs at a dealer.
All of the check this and check that is bullshirt. Believe me, if somethings wrong they will point it out to you whether you pay them to check it or not. If one of your axle boots are ripped they will see it immediately. Thats how they make money.
Tell the dealer what you want done according to the warranty and required maintenance information. Get the Oil change and various filters and fluids changed or filled. You may be able to change or add fluids and change the air and pollen filter yourself. When you make the appointment they will try to talk you into the package. Say your not interested in that and you want only what is required at this time to uphold your warranty. Tell them you lube your own doors and can check your own headlights. Tell them you park in a garage and you would know if your car was leaking anything.
You probably road test your vehicle everyday and you are not an idiot. Rotate your tires every 10,000 miles. Brakes and other items are checked during state inspections in Pennsylvania and other states. How many times a year do brakes need inspected? Jeez!
It seems to me if you did that it would cost you about $250-$300 and you don’t have to get dirty.
I do my job and pay mechanics to work on my car, but I only get done what is necessary.
When I’m due for service, I pull out my maintenance book and see what is required and go from there.
I did this with my 2000 Nissan Maxima I owned for 8 years and traded it in with 180,000 miles on it.
Good luck to you.
By the way, so far (5500miles) I love my Vdub way more than the Maxima.
dude…
i just dropped off my 2003 GTI 1.8T at the dealership b/c the check engine light went on, the guy mentioned that since i was coming on 40K I shoul dget that taken care of….I saw him write down $780!!!!!
Oh schnap, I’d be telling him you’ll be getting a second opinion before going ahead with that!
Wow… I feel that I’m getting off pretty good for the $480 I’m being quoted (after tax) in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area. And I’m definitely NOT a DIY type of gal (but I’m thinking I should learn…)
Oh, and mine’s a 2003 Golf.
Sounds like a pretty decent deal Jill. :]
I’m encouraged to see i’m not the only one floored by the enormous cost of the VW 40K service. I recently bought my wife a 2004 Beetle, i liked it so much i decided to get myself a 2003 Turbo S. Now we’re both due for the 40K, and we’re freaking out, cause our dealer charges $580.00. I purchased a two year extended warranty with mine and a service package, but the service package only gets me a WHOPPNG $60.00 discount on the 40K. Ain’t that special?!?
My dealer quoted my $750!!! I about cried. We were communicating through email, I’m hoping it was just a typo. They also told me they had to flush either my transmission or my radiator, I forget which. I checked my manual and looked on this blog only to find there is no flushing required. I think I’ll take my car to a local vw shop. Do I run the risk of voiding my warranty if I go there? I already live off of peanut butter and jelly to afford my car, what else can I possibly cut back on?
Hi Angie, that is pretty steep, even for a 40k. As long as detailed records are kept and the job is done right, your warranty cannot be voided. I would try out another dealer in your area or a local VW mechanic for a better price. Good luck!
Hi there I bought a 2003 GTI Turbo not to long ago and keep hearing about a 80,000 mile tune up but am unable to find what exactly is made up of this tune up and some say the timing belt but then some say not til 105,000 i want to keep this car for a long time and don’t want to take any chances :) thanks for your help.
Hey Jennifer, congrats on the GTI! :] You can check maintenance schedules anytime on Volkswagen’s website here Just enter your year, GTI, the 1.8T engine (yours has this one), and the mileage.
It does mention a timing belt check, and that’s something you don’t want to pass up. If that goes kablooey, the whole engine goes kablooey. :P
Hi there I was wondering what the going rate to get a timing belt changed at the dealership i was just quoted $550.00.
Thanks
Hi Jen, I haven’t had to get a quote on that myself yet. It’s a pretty hefty job so that doesn’t sound too terrible. But $550 is nothing to bawk at. :D Let’s see if anyone else can provide a quote they’ve received.
I notice on the VW website that draining the water separator is part of the 40,000 mile service. Miles earlier I took my car to a dealer that charged me to check the water separator. The next dealer I took it to told me that I didn’t have to check the water separator because of the design. I have a 2006 Jetta TDI.
Hey Eva, after a couple searches of my own it seems that for 2006 TDIs and above no water separation is required. I don’t have experience with TDIs myself, so head over to TDIclub.com and check out some of the posts there. They have a wealth of info on the TDI. Here’s a thread specifically discussing the water separator. I hope that helps!
Dan – yer the best. I just got the email from my dealer that I’m due for my 40K (they were right) and there’s not a chance I’m paying that. I’m gonna do this Fugazi-style…DIY.
I have a 2005 1/2 (new body, 2.5 automatic) Jetta. I’m due for my 40k and the dealership quoted me $920! I nearly fainted. They told me the spark plugs consumed 6 hours of labor!
LOL nice Nachos. Go for it. :D Laura, looks like that dealer is trying to take you for a ride, big time. I suggest never going back there as that’s ridiculous.
Wish I had seen this website before I took my 2007 Rabbit in for the 40,000 service. $550! Just about lost it when they gave me the price AFTER they did the service.
Completely learned my lesson.
I really like this car but am concerned about these high maintenance costs.
Does anyone know, is it just VW or are all the dealers charging a lot for maintenance these days?
Thanks,
Carolyn in Massachusetts
Hey Carolyn, I don’t know prices in particular for other manufacturers, but I’m sure they don’t run quite as high on the average.
Hello! It was comforting to find this blog as I just dropped off my ’03 GTI 1.8T for a timimg belt change and all of the hooey that goes with it. Now I certainly discussed the work with my mechanic (not the dealer) who mainly works on VW, Audi and BMW, but he did not provide a quote. Shame on me for not asking. He insists he did quote the price, but whatever…he dropped the $1018.45 bomb in my lap this morning. Ouch! I had him go through the parts and costs, but it really does seem excessive. Just for giggles I may ask for a quote from the dealer for comparison. I will check out the VW web maintenance page you recommended to an earlier post. Any thoughts?
Hey Jessie, if you’re getting the timing belt changed as well as a 40k completed, it just might run around that price due to the labor involved for the timing belt. But don’t quote me on that. Definitely shop around and see what else is out there.
If it’s just the timing belt, that sounds very excessive.
This service is not a 40K service, but just preventative maintenance at 80K. All I am having done is the timing belt and an oil change. The machanic did recommend changing the water pump as well since he will be in there, but I declined there since I just had it replaced 2.5 years ago…and getting the feeling he was wanting to jack the cost for me. The parts he quoted for the timing belt change are (I am not very car savy, please bear with me): timing belt, hydraulic tensor, relay roller, serpentine belt, thermostat and seal ring, temperature sensor, cleaner. Does this seem right? I know there is only so much you can say, but I can’t help not feeling right about this.
That sounds about right, but do you know what his labor rate is, or how long it’ll take for him to do the repairs? That could be bumping up the cost a lot. I’ll be doing this exact same maintenance in the next 6 months or so as well. Let’s hope we both might find lower prices!
Cheers to lower prices! For me parts are $400 and labor $429 for the timing belt and then oil change and bulb…should be done tomorrow am.
Hey, thanks again for doing what you do. It really is nice to have an ear that isn’t trying to give me a bill.
hahah yeah, no problems. I completely understand. :D
1. I took my 2005 VW Toureg V6 to the dealer today for the 40K service. He quoted $755. He also added another $145 to change the brake fluids as that was not included in the 40K service (he mentioned so).
Does this sound right that the brake fluid replacement is not part of the 40K Service?
2. The dealer amentioned that the front brakes are at 15% and quoted $955 for parts and labor to change the front brakes. I feel the prices are high and was wondering what the right prices might be.
3. The left side light was flickering and the ‘Please Check Light’ warning was flashing on the Dash. Mentioned that to the Dealer and he said that the whole unit needs to be replaced. He quoted $90 to replace the unit. Does this sound right?
I don’t mind spending on the car as I love it, but I don’t want to be ripped off, especially during these times.
Hey Denzil, phew!! That’s pricey. :D These maintenance intervals are terrible, aren’t they? I’m looking at the schedule for the 40k on your Touareg, and it doesn’t list a brake fluid change, which is odd since a change is usually required every two years or so many miles. However, I’m sure there’s a different type of fluid in there that doesn’t require it or something.
You can view the complete maintenance schedule for your Touareg here.
$955 for a brake pad change is outrageous. And as for your headlight, if it’s only the bulb that’s going out, sounds like they want to charge labor plus a few dollars to fix it. You can probably find a good how-to on changing the bulb at the VWVortex.com Forums.
Anywho, You may want to try to get quotes from another dealer or shop before moving ahead there. You may end up saving $100′s! :) gGood luck!
Thanks Dan.
Will shop around. I thought the prices were high and thanks for confirming that.
Hi, I need to get the 40K mile tuneup done on my 05 gli. I haven’t had any tuneups or maintenance done since I bought the car with 17.5K miles. I’m at 48K miles now. So, I called the service dept of my local VW to inquire about the service since they sent me a 10% off coupon for this service. Well, to my surprise he said this service cost $800!! The service includes the following:
- change engine oil/filter
- change pollen filter
- change spark plugs
- change fuel filter
- check tire pressure and rotate
- check all belts/timing,etc
- check tranny/engine for leaks
- lube door hinges and sunroof
- check all fluids
- full ODB of airbag/engine
- check exhaust system,suspension
- bleed and refill brake system
Basically, I told him I have a K&N Drop in and could supply the spark plugs. This would probably lower the cost to about $730 or so. With 10% off that should cost about $650. Really pricey but I need this done. I called another local VW dealer about this tuneup and they quoted me at $682. Does this sound about right for this service? Has anyone else had this done? Keep in mind I would try and do *some* of this myself to save $ but it’s winter and I don’t have anywhere to work on my car. Thanks
BTW, one other thing.
The difference I’m seeing on the 40k tune-up that my dealer does compared to others is it includes the following:
Clean the fuel system, Flush and fill the coolant system, Bleed and refill the brake system. Most the other postings/threads I’ve seen don’t mention these things being done.
Hey Chris, even $682 is a bit high but not unheard of depending on what part of the country you’re in. Also, you can check out the official service interval details here to see what exactly is supposed to be done on any interval for your Jetta. Hope that helps!
I have a problem and i was wondering if you could give me some iformation. I own a 97 jetta and I notice my engine shaking when my car is idle. I can hear and feel it at each stop sign. I was told by the mechanic that there was a short circuit going from the cable to the engine. I saw some sparks and that was what was producing the shaking. He told me it was fine and not dangerous. Is it okay to drive around and won’t it be dangerous for the engine since sparks keep flying around?
HOw much would getting the cables replace cost with manual labour?
thank you for shedding light on this matter.
Sparks flying around anywhere in your car is never good! lol I wouldn’t drive it anymore until you get that problem patched up. And personally I’d suggest a new mechanic if he told you it was ok to drive, but that’s just me. :)
As far as the cables, are we talking about the ignition cables, if you happen to know? If so, they’re not terribly expensive but labor costs vary a lot from place to place. I wouldn’t expect it to take more than one hour to do the repair though.
I wish I knew of a how-to so you could DIY it if you wanted, but I can’t find one currently. Good luck with the repair, and be careful if you do have to drive it!
I have a 2007 VW rabbit (purchased new).I have enjoyed the car up to this point.Car has around 42K miles and just developed a small coolant leak.Hoses look ok.Coolant appears to be coming from the radiator, behind the electric fans.Fans are blowing coolant onto the engine.Pew!Took car to Dealership, Prestige VW in Westchester NY.Recieved a call later that day, they say car has a leaky hose.Hose is covered under warranty, heres the catch, they say it will cost 160.00 plus, to flush out coolant system.Coolant is stock (red) with about a quart of new green coolant. The coolant bottle states this coolant is compatible with the extended life red antifreeze all makes and models.Dealer claims that VW will not honor the warranty unless they flush the system.I refuse to believe this and said to them, dont do the work to the car and they replied you will have to pay 94.00 plus tax because we are going to charge you for diagnosing the problem.I dont buy that either the problem is covered under warranty so shouldn’t the labor be covered as well.If they are going to drain the system to change the hose, how much more effort is it to run some water through the radiator and engine block ETC…Seems like a complete rip off.Any way, they are supposed to call me so the technician can speak to me.
Any comments on NYS law pertaining to this matter would be appreciated.
Hey James, sucks about the coolant problem, but this dealership is definitely trying to scam something. If a repair is warrantied, than everything is covered, including labor. Also, there should not be green coolant in the system. It has to be the Volkswagen-specified pink coolant, so your system will need to be flushed and replaced with the correct coolant. But you should definitely take it elsewhere.
Thanks for the info…JT
My dealer told me my 40.000 miles maintenance will cost around 300 dollars i got 07 jetta with 5 speed
2007 Passat. When the front window defrost position is selected, we also have to manually select the A/C on, pushing the air conditioning button, so that the defrost is actually clearing the window. I questioned our local VW maintenance shop and they said ” Yeah, thats the way the system works on that model”. Every other vehicle I’ve had , the A/C kicks in automatically when you select defrost. Any suggestions?
Just picked up my 2007 Jetta 2.5 from getting the 40K service at the one and only VW dealership in Boise…$706.73. 451.00 of that cost was labor…Yikes.
Thanks for this post. I’ve been calling around for a week trying to get quotes and figure out what the big difference was between my regular maintenance and this one. Volkswagen of Oakland charges $530 for the 40k maintenance. It still seems crazy to me that I am expected to do this every 40k miles but that’s probably not that often. I bought my Jetta TDI at 60k. Thankfully my mom has a VW owner that does all his own work so I’ll just buy the ECS kit. Saved me $250!
Hey guys, sorry for the VERY late replies.
Neal, I have never heard of that myself, so I’m not sure if the local shop was just searching for an answer for you or something. Very odd man.
Gary, phew! Pretty pricey, but that may be the average in your area.
Good luck Amanda! It’s great that you can get it done by an acquaintence. :D
Just dropped my 2006 Jetta 2.5 off in Murrieta, Ca. Good buddies with the service guy and he quoted $505 for the 40k then said hed throw in a 15% coupon. Now they do offer the pricing match for other dealers so if anyone knows where i can get a better deal send me a link or let me know asap otherwise im gonna suck it up cuz i got a lot of driving to do this weekend.
Ok, my 2004 golf is in for it’s 40K service – get this… $979.95!! in Oakland, CA.
I think i’m keeping this dealer in business. I’m wondering if they charge a different price to differnent clients or if that’s a flat cost.
They also said I need a new catalytic converter, but luckily that is covered under warrantee. I’m hoping that catch makes it worth it!.
My 2005 Beetle is getting a 40k tuneup. They recommend an injection flush. Is this necessary?
Hey Stacie, as far as I know, that’s not included in the 40k service, so I would pass on it. Good luck!
I also have an ’07 Rabbit and was quoted $525 for the 40K. I’m trying to figure out whether to just do it at the dealership for peace of mind or take it to another shop for the basic stuff.
Not to mention I need new drum brakes too, but I bought my car at 28K miles… should I need new drums this soon? Or did the previous owner wreck them? Any thoughts?
Hey Holly, $525 isn’t too bad as the price fluctuates from location to location, state-wise. As far as your brakes, the Rabbit should have disc brakes on all four wheels, so you would need to change out the pads.
It’s common for the previous generation VWs to wear down their rears before the fronts because of a specific brake bias that Volkswagen puts on them. This is not typical to other cars, so people think it’s odd when it happens. :D But I guess this is still par for the course on the newer models as well.
Regardless, the pads typically last around 40-50k miles, give or take. so you could be just about ready for the change, depending on how the car has been driven.
Just called the dealership in Henderson, NV for a quote on a 40k service on a 2003 Passat V6. $786.00 for a 4hr job. Oh let’s not forget the 15% coupon $670.00. Seems steep???
My car has 37,200 miles if you’re doing the math I don’t drive it much because I travel a lot.
As a single female I have always taken my car to the dealer just to make sure everything is done properly. It may be time to go elsewhere. Thanks for the info.
The new web address for the tuning kit is:
http://www.ecstuning.com/ES10237/
Bryce, thanks for passing along that link!
Hello Dan,
I just got quoted 580 for the 40k service on my 08 Jetta. I was told by a friend to check was is truly necessary. I had an oil and filter change recently, so i told them that wasn’t needed. But I am not sure what else is on the 08 Jetta maintenance… could you let me know where I could find this info I can’t find my manual.
Thanks Dan!
I have a 2009 VW Tiguan SE, and I was at Sprinfield, VW over the weekend to have my oil changed. The sevice rep noticed that I had my on air filter and pollen filter which I purchased from ECS Tunning. He asked if I wanted him to go ahead and install them for me. I should have asked how much he was going to charge, but i didn’t thing it would be that much. Since i normally on my other cars install them myself. Well, was I surprised when I got my bill. I was charged $49.99 for the installation of each item.
The garage I take my 2005 Beetle said the transmission fluid should be changed as part of my 40K service package. Is this correct? The fluid alone costs 22.5/qt and the car will need 6 quarts plus the price of the filter/plug and filter kit. The total cost for the 40K service is $550 including the transmission fluid change which isn’t out of line with what I’ve been reading.
I just got my 40K service done for 440$ in NJ. Sounds like I did not get ripped off. Now, the dealer said the tire tread on my Jetta is 3 (need to have atleast 4) and quote 670$ to replace them.
He also said that the rear brake pads have to be replaced – 220$.
The front brakes have rust rotors (no quote given). Can you suggest what would it cost to have these done outside?
Also, the current tires on my Jetta are Michelin 205/55R16 91H Tubeless. I guess the manufacturer suggested tires have different specs.
Have a 2008 VW Jetta 2.5. 40049 miles on it and it is headed to the VW dealership tomorrow for the 40K “package”. Dealership charges $420.00 but they also give a 10% discount since I purchased from them as well. I have taken the car in every 5K miles since I purchased and don’t think I am being “ripped-off” by any means. The past 7 visits have cost me a little over $800.00 (including the brake fluid flush and alignment for new tires) and have had several items replaced under the VW warranty program.
While the dealership may charge more than your regular service garage, I “trust” my dealership over an outside garage that deals with many makes and models other than VW.
I salute those of you who are DiYers. As for me, I’ll take it to the dealer and have peace of mind.
I have a 2006 Passat. 55,250 mi. My dealership said I need the 40,000 mi service done. This is the quote: $485 40,000 mi service ~ $215 Fuel system cleaning services ~ $199 Rotate & Alignment. The car has the warranty and I bought the extended warranty.
1. What is exactly included in the 40,000 service?
2. I live in Southern California and I don’t know a VW Mechanic to take it too.
3. I don’t want to void the warranty ~ It seems like at 60,000mi these cars fall apart: Transmission, Engine, Electrical.
4. I have had nothing but problems from day one! I purchased this certified pre`owned vehicle in 2009. (Its an 06)
5. Its been in the shop over 8 times. in 1 year & 11 months. I know that the trans mission is acting up and the dealership keeps telling me that its fine.
Dan,
Thanks so much for site! Just bought a 2008 GTi with 39K here in Houston Texas. I called the dealership that did all the past services on the car, they wanted $600 for the 40K service +$350 for the Transmission so were at $1000. What was also interesting is advertised VW “specialists” in my area (non dealership) have hopped on this scam by quoting just under this. So having family and friends in the car business both at dealerships and in car repair all said: SCAM-SCAM-SCAM.
I found two excellent foreign domestic auto repair shops close to home/work both quoted the same plus my own research and leg work on the web about car servicing VW gti as follows:
1. Oil change/filter/pollen filter-$100
2. Check under car, check this/that/the other/brakes/ect.-no
charge, if they find something they will let you know!
3. Transmission fluid, trans filter, plug, labor -$240
(kept receipts on this for extended 100K warranty on this
trans-YES-100K warranty there is a letter from VW on line
for this from a lawsuit and you can call in with your VIN to
see if your vehicle qualifies.
4. Tire rotation, balance, spin-free at Discount Tire w. my two
new tires.
5. Change out brake fluid, ect.-can be done between 40K and
60K-normally done when you have break pads replaced.
6. Did my own computer service reset-its in the car booklet
very easy to do.
TOTAL COST=$350
1/3 of the dealership!! Another note-VW’s have excellent computer technology w. sensors that monitor problems w. fluids, brakes, ect-so let your on board computer be your advocate.
Peace and Spirited Driving!
Well I see the $451.00. That’s what I was quoted at a premier Cincinnati dealership to have my 40k service done on my 2003.
I wish mine was that cheap. Here’s what I was quoted. 40k tuneup for 2010 Volkswagen Jetta Wolfgan Special Edition quoted by Vacaville Volkswage Dealership $845.00 not including taxes and if they find something else wrong with it. I said repeat that again.
Well I can say this is my second VW and I really do like these cars. I’ve had very little problems with the first Jetta 1999 so I guess the service is worth it.
