Golf Mark VI?

Via German car magazines, VW releases it’s first renderings of the Mark VI Golf….already? Wo0t!

Forgoing the standard release cycle (at least 5 years per generation), VW plans to release the Mark VI as early as 2008. Why? Apparently the Mark V is far too costly to produce and VW ain’t happy with that.

All in all, I’m pretty pleased with the renderings. I have to say that we can defiantly see VW moving to a more “sophisticated” design. To me, the Mark VI looks like a cross between an A3 and a Passat (both of which I dig heavily – Dax and I actually chased down an A3 in the highway the other day just to get a closer look).

Read the full article here. It includes tech specs which I’m far too lazy to repeat.

  1. Yeah, I think I’m liking so far, but I will need to have more views to make a final decision. It’s definitely Audi A3-like. Either they really plan to go that direction, or the renderer built the MkVI off of the A3. My wife’s lease will be up on her Jetta right about that time, so maybe we’ll be able to look at one of these. Hmmm :)

  2. So if the Mark V is too expensive for them to make, that must mean we’re getting more for our money when we buy a Mark V? I highly doubt the prices on the Mark VI will drop even though their production costs surely will, lol.

  3. This picture of the Golf VI is the most pathetic design yet; it looks like the Polo’s ugly sister. If you want to look at a nice car, look at the new BMW 3 series coupe, thats a proper looking car.

Ehhh…I’m actually not a big fan of the 3 series. Too many swoopy lines for my taste. And the tail lights are turn off. If we’re talkin’ high end car, I’m into the Audi A4 & A8.

  5. The new BMWs are the most bastardized pieces of crap I’ve ever seen. The E46 platform was class. These new BMWs look like Hyundais rolling down the road, until you get close enough to see the badge. Can you tell I’m upset at the new BMW design trend? lol

I’ll agree though, I hope they have sinced changed what the next platform will look like compared to this concept.

  8. Had a Golf GTi in 2001 because prior to that car I was in love with VW. The GTi was certainly Hilter’s revenge! Couldn’t believe the poor quality of the interior, squeaks, rattles, dashboard came away from the main body, 10 sets of discs and pads and I was only an average, low mileage driver. The quality of the interior is just as bad so what will be the improvements on the mark VI? Feed up with VW I bought an Audi A4 – excellent car and quality, excellent after sales and customer services so why should I swap back whent eh new Golf comes out?

  10. Re Mark 5 200bhp GTI. We have covered 50,000 miles now.
Broken down once so far with ignition pack failure. This car is not worthy of the GTI badge. It is very heavy, poor fuel economey, 32mpg max with aircon on. Tyres wear out in about 8000 miles on the front, big rims are too big for the car, making tyre wear very bad on inner and outer edges! This car is a poor imitation of the marks’ 1,2,3,4. I have been lucky enough to own or do alot of miles in all the GTIs’. My favourate was the Mark 2. The only really good point is safety, this is well catered for with air bags etc.
Come on VW cut out the long lunches, make a good light weight safe GTI worthy of the special badge. Dont make the same mistakes BMW did with the M3 CSL though! Peter Cave
