We have covered 50,000 miles now. Broken down once so far with ignition pack failure. This car is not worthy of the GTI badge. It is very heavy, poor fuel economey, 32mpg max with aircon on. Tyres wear out in about 8000 miles on the front, big rims are too big for the car, making tyre wear very bad on inner and outer edges! This car is a poor imitation of the marks' 1,2,3,4. I have been lucky enough to own or do alot of miles in all the GTIs'. My favourate was the Mark 2. The only really good point is safety, this is well catered for with air bags etc. Come on VW cut out the long lunches, make a good light weight safe GTI worthy of the special badge. The GTi was certainly Hilter's revenge! Couldn't believe the poor quality of the interior, squeaks, rattles, dashboard came away from the main body, 10 sets of discs and pads and I was only an average, low mileage driver. The quality of the interior is just as bad so what will be the improvements on the mark VI? Feed up with VW I bought an Audi A4 - excellent car and quality, excellent after sales and customer services so why should I swap back whent eh new Golf comes out?
