Designing the Concept R

While thumbing through VW’s site I stumbled upon the process images from the three concept cars, including my favorite: the Concept R.
It’s always amazing to me how such great products have such humble beginnings.
Designers generally follow a strict process, working from general ideas down to the minute details. They spend many (often sleepless) hours researching, writing, planning and sketching to reach a refined conclusion – one that answers all the questions and fills in all the holes.
Take the Concept R. It started out as a simple sketch, scrawled out on a scrap of paper:
Tighter illustrations followed, further elaborating on the shapes and lines that make the Concept R unique:
Ink and watercolor paint are applied to flesh out more of the specific details:

Process is key in design, and can differentiate the strong products from the weak very quickly. The next time you climb into your dub, just remember that it too was once an insignificant doodle on the edge of someone’s scrap paper.

Dood! Rockin post man. I absolutely love this stuff. It was my original aspiration to get into automobile design/development. But, I’m quite happy with what I’m doing now. ;D

I love this car so that I have to get the paint code(color), because I know I can’t afford the car. |Is their any one out there who can give me this paint code. Hey Ervin, Yes, it is hot, but since it’s a concept, I don’t think anyone has ever published the paint code for it’s color since it’s most likely custom. I could most definitely be wrong though. Maybe someone will chime in with it.
