Shock ads are paying off big according to VW.
According to USAToday, since the launch of the “Safe Happens” ads on April 10 Volkswagen has received:
+ 37% brochure requests at call centers.
+56% brochure requests online.
+58% internet requests for dealer price quotes.
Wow. That’s strong. Way to go Volkswagen. I’ve included the two ads below, just in case you haven’t seen them.

I was VERY upset with this commercial. I’m sure, as a car company, they would know an average of car accedents a day, or at least in a time period. This really made me jump and look away. My heart started racing and almost felt like crying. I’ve had a bad experience and I know I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE. This commercial has gave me a strong oppinion about how I buy my cars. I WILL NEVER buy a car made from VolksWagon or any other company that has cooperation with them.
I’m really sorry to hear that Sean. VW is going for a shock value with these ads, and are bound to upset some. I suppose the old “you can’t make an omelette without breaking some eggs” line applies here, as the ads have been overwhelmingly well received and boosted VW’s sales.
But what they are communicating is the safety of the car, where the Jetta got a 5 star crash rating. And people have heard that message loud and clear. I’ve personally never been in an accident like that(knock on wood) and after watching those commercials, I pray I never will be. The bottom line is that too many people take the power and responsibility of driving for granted, and almost never think about the implications of their(or other people’s) actions.
Some folks need to be reminded. If ads like these(from VW or anyone) put safety into the minds of folks while driving and purchasing cars, them I’m all for it.
I hope you never have another bad experience. Thanks for commenting!
