omg, I have the same issue with my 2003 VW jetta. It stalls, then starts up again just fine. It also will spontaneously make the switching lanes turn light sound (click click) for no reason at all (note- my turn lights remain off during this spontaneously clicking). My car will also show that doors are open when they are closed (all very spontaneously). What is scary, is that the car stalling, you never know when it will happen...it just happens. right before it stalls- a beep beep sound comes on (almost like a microwave notifying that your dinner is done) - the a few light on the dash come one (battery, check engine soon, and the ECM light- just for a few seconds- then the car stalls... it does however start right back up again). It seems to stall coming right after a total stop (or a few minutes after a total stop). Las Vegas VW wants $150 bucks just to take a look see...plus what ever it takes to fix the issue. total crap....ugggg

Hey Dragan, hmmm, it is an old issue, but they should have no trouble looking something like this up in their system. I would think it'd still be in there. I was too lazy to get this done myself when I still had warranty, so I have yet to do it myself. I still get the stall every now and then.

Anywho, try another dealer if you can and try to give them the TSB info above to help them track it down maybe. :D

Hi,

I'm having this exact problem, and I called a local dealer and spoke with a service rep about it. He was kinda giving me the runaround and saying that unless the check engine light is on and the ECM registers specific codes, then it's the TSB doesn't apply, but I should bring it in so they can look at it - which means $150 diag fee :-( I hate the dealer, they're such leaches.

I just had my 80k mile maint done, and had all 6 coil packs replaced...

Hahahaah hey Joe, the '97 would be the 12v. I think, and someone will correct me if I'm wrong, that the 24v came out in late 2002.

Martha,

The 24V Did not come into production until late 2002. If your car is a 2001 and your motor has 6 cylinders then it is a 12V VR6 engine, and this fix will not apply to your car.

Hi Martha, if your Jetta has the 24v VR6 engine, then it most likely is this problem.
