24V VR6 owners, if you have experienced this problem, there’s a technical service bulletin out for the fix. I know this TSB is old, but I experienced this problem and just found out about it.
If your car stalls or has a faulty/jumpy idle immediately after starting while the engine is warm, you need to go to the dealer and have them do this technical service bulletin. The problem usually happens after 15-30 minutes of non-operation with the engine up to full operating temp. This also occurs more often in colder weather, though it is known to happen in warm/hot weather as well.
Here’s the TSB information:
TSB 01-04-04
ECM software reflash for 2002 and 2003 model years w/ 2.8L VR6-24V.
ECM Part # New software level
022906032 BL 0012
022906032 BM 0007
022906032 CR 0006
022906032 CS 0006
Be sure to get that exact information to your dealer if they act like, I mean, happen not to know anything about it.

my 2001 jetta seems to have this problem, or is their something else that could cause this reaction?
Hi Martha, if your Jetta has the 24v VR6 engine, then it most likely is this problem.
Martha,
The 24V Did not come into production until late 2002. If your car is a 2001 and your motor has 6 cylinders then it is a 12V VR6 engine, and this fix will not apply to your car.
