Recreating the VW logo? Be careful, they’ll sick their lawyers on you.

Rakker Design posted a great tutorial on drawing the world famous VW logo..and got a nasty surprise from Volkswagen.
After posting a tutorial on how to recreate the VW logo, the folks at Rakker Design and Dan Richard received a letter from a corporate fella at VW telling them that the logo was a registered trademark and could not be recreated. They had to remove the tutorial…or else.
Come on Volkswagen, are you serious?! I’m EXTREMELY disappointed about this. These tutorials are meant for learning purposes. You MUST have better things to do with your time, like firing the dude that wrote that letter. The sad thing is, he’ll probably get congratulated about finding the tutorial and making them remove it (which it was). Maybe now they’ll come after people for posting images of their cars online. Man, we’d be in trouble.
Anyway, this is horrible PR. Mad props to Dan Richard for calling them out on it. Come on VW, you’re better than this.

Yeah… this just doesn’t even seem real to me. The letter is very unprofessional sounding. You would think it’d sound much more hoity-toity better-than-thou with lots of lawyer speak. I don’t know. It couldn’t be worth VW’s time to go after only this instance. What about the millions of websites out there most likely taking the VW logo and tweaking it to match the website’s name or something like that?
That’s why I took special care with Volksbloggin. I figure the name Volksbloggin is already enough play on VW’s name. Putting something similar to the logo in there would be over the top. :D
They would rather shag prostitutes (aledgedaley)
