I figured they were already, or somewhere outside Europe anyway. I’m pretty sure the Golfs and Jettas sold on this side of the pond are made in Brazil/Mexico.
Sure ’nuff. My GTI was assembled in Curitiba, Brazil. So cool too because my wife and I are good friends with a Brazilian family from there. :D

Some people feel a little differently about that one, though I’m not one of ‘em. I’ve heard people complain about the quality of the parts not being up-to-snuff with German assembled parts.
Yeah, I’ve heard plenty pros and cons too. haha Makes you wonder whether the workers in Mexico/Brazil are up to snuff compared to their German counterparts. But I don’t think I’ve seen anybody provide real-world evidence. I haven’t had any problems with my GTI, yet. Awe man, I prolly just cursed myself.
I just got back from the dealership, the new GLI has parts 50/50 from Germany/Mexico, but is assembled is Mexico. The new GTI and Passat (at least the ones I was looking at) had 80% of their parts from Germany (transmission from Japan) and built/assembled in Germany (GTI in Wolfsburg and Passat somewhere I can’t remember).
So, there you go :)
Rockin’. Great stats to know.
