40k Service followup: White Allen VW Rocks Faces

Last Saturday I had my 40k service done at a great Dayton, OH dealer: White Allen VW.

Check out White Allen Volkswagen in your free time. If you’re local, I would definitely recommend visiting the dealership. There’s a good group of folks over there.

I brought in my GTI around 8:00am and was out the door with 40k service list completed around 11:00am. It was very speedy, and quality was not sacrificed to get it done that fast. The mechanic that did the job was very competent and is a great guy in general. Props!

My GTI is like new again, with a fresh set of plugs and related stuffs. As the mechanic was working through the list of things to do, he discovered that the air filter installed from the factory was the wrong one. Way to go VW. It was either a diesel filter, or one to be used for cold weather only, that had an extra piece of padding affixed to the back of the filter which restricted air flow. With the correct filter in place, I may have gained a VERY small amount of power, maybe only enough to measure with the by-the-seat-of-my-pants gauge.

Overall, great experience. I highly recommend White Allen VW for service needs.

  1. Not to keep pluggin White Allen, but I too have had nothing but good things about this dealership. I leased by 2005 Jetta 2.5, I walked in totally unannounced, picked out my Jetta and was out in 2 hours! Let’s just say I was a happy camper giving my new 2.5 a work out on the drive back to Cincy!

  2. Do you have that checklist of items for 40K service? I wanna get it done from a local mechanic and want to make sure he is in accord with vw guidelines.

Hey Vinay. Sure thing, check out my original post on the 40k service. It has the list of items to be completed for a 2003 GTI VR6 24v. There are some DIY tidbits in there as well.

Your list may vary slightly if you have a different model. In that case, you can look up any of the maintenance interval lists on Volkswagen’s website. Check that out here.

  4. I just called White Allen Service to see if they could look at my 2007 Passat 4Motion 3.6l Wagon’s head light bulb. I have HID’s and was told it is covered under warranty. So they then told me it would be next week (today is a Wed) before they could look at it, and they need it all day. I say for a head light bulb? and the service writer gets very rude and nasty with me. I told him, “that’s ok I will find another dealer.” How rude! Do not go there, they do not treat everyone the same. I paid $42K for may wagon, I am thinking I made a bad choice. They lost more then a little warranty work, I was going to buy a new Jetta TDI there, guess I need to find another dealer.
