Great ad for the ill-fated Jetta TDI.
I just ran across this and had to pass it along. You gotta love VW marketing!
Volkswagen sent us a shot of the new Scirocco doing its thing on the famous Nürburgring Nordschleife!

Yeah, you’ve got to give it to ‘em, they’ve always been a little different :)
As a student of marketing this is your basic cutting through the clutter tactic which seems to be working very well for VW with the new generation! I see more and more 20 somethings driving those beauitful Jettas, Passats, etc!
Way to go VW! Keep up the great work, you have to admit it is always fun seeing suprises like this ad!

Being completely naive to marketing tactics, I’d say that VW invented this type of marketing…they’ve been doing it forever.
Good call. I’m a big fan of the lemon ads.
The recent television ads for the VW Jetta have been extremely disturbing. They are easy to remember — especially for me. I lost my husband in a car accident and each time one of the VW commercials comes on, I find it so traumatic that I must turn off the television. I plan on letting the networks know this information as well.
I know that VW will not stop their realistic shock ad for one person but I can assure you that there are others like me who feel the same way. I have owned several VW’s in the past but do not plan on purchasing one again because of this ad.
P.S.: The car my husband was driving at the time of the accident was a VW.
I’m extremely sorry to hear that Cheryl. We’ve already heard from others here at VB that have had the same reaction to the ads. I’m sure VW has admirable intentions with the ads, but I suppose “shock ads” in general will always wind up hurting someone.
We at VB wish you all the best Cheryl.
this is my first time on your site, so i’m new at this, i have a problem with our 2004 jetta and no one seems to be able to help us including the local dealerships’ [ i hope i'm on the right web site to get answers to my questions from other jetta owners ] anyway in july of 2006 my wife and i bought a 2004 jetta tdi,[leather, sunroof, all the goodies] with 89000km, and for the most part are pleased with it, however i am not at all pleased with the fuel milage’ the very best that we have ever gotten is 650 km to a tank of fuel, and thats on the highway, there are no warning lights on, and the car has all kinds of power; we’ve changed the oil, air filter, and fuel filter to no avail, my wife drives the car most of the time so it’s not driven hard, every jetta owner i talk to is getting between 950 and 1200km to a tank, the reason we bought the car was for the great fuel milage that vw bosts about, we are extreemly disapointed with this aspect of the car. we are hoping that some other jetta owners have had the same problem and have found the cure and would be willing to share that ifo with us, i feel as though we were sold a defective car. i have called the complaints department of vw canada and registerd a complaint with them, but they can’t force the dealership to fix the problem, and the dealership [owosco vw whitby ontario] will not retun our calls now that they know what we want, our next step is,well does anybody want to buy a low milage 04 jetta tdi. we would appreciate any and all coments
Wow - sorry to hear that Byron. I haven’t heard any issues like this, but it’s not incredibly suprising. The reliability of the Mark IV platform has been in question for some time. And the fact that the dealer won’t even return your call is rediculous.
I’d recommend that you vist the VW Vortex forums and see if anyone has encountered this issue. Good luck!
Byron, Definitely go check out http://www.tdiclub.com
They are the best source of TDI information. Everyone on the forums is extremely helpful.
Side Note: I’ve had my 03 Jetta TDI for a couple months now… one of my best purchases (40-50 mpg combined)…
I’m sure TDI Club will get you straightened out.
