The new product plan is aimed to revitalize sales in the U.S. as well as “return the brand to its roots”.
Nice quick article at The Car Connection, Where Adrian Hallmark lays down the prospects for revamped products. Things to note: a new Rabbit R32 with 250hp due in 2007 and a possible redesign of the Beetle after 2010. VW is also re-evaluating product names like Toureg, that apparently carry both “negative and positive equity (interesting that negative was listed first)”.
No matter what, I’ll be eagerly waiting.

That’s got to be a misprint. The 1st gen R32 is 300hp and the new GTI is 250hp, if they drop the HP by 50 they’re shooting themselves in the foot, but I guess that’s what they’re doing. We’re hoping for more though.
I’m happy to see they’re *considering* bringing over that kickass 1.4L TSI, maybe they’ll consider gracing us with a Polo too. The TDI Toureg, while it has a high cool factor, just blows my mind that somebody would spend that much on an SUV. I was amazed when I saw one on the road a few months ago, but even more shocked when I found out how much they cost.
I just realized I’m trippin’. 1st Gen R32 is 250 and the new GTI is 200hp.
Disregard my craziness, this just happened to me a few hours ago. :(
Doood, man down man down! :( Can’t stand seeing a VW all banged up. Are you ok?
Yeah we’re fine, just a little stiff (and sad for our TDI).
That sucks dude! She’s a nice ride - didn’t realize you where rockin’ the biodiesel! Killer man. Hope it all works out ok.
