Aggressive Service Reminders: Is This A Good Thing?

VW customer service has gone on the offensive.
Just this past Friday I received a call from VW. The soft, gentle female voice on the other end told me she was from the service department, and informed me that my Golf was due for it’s 35K service. She asked if it would be okay for a representative to call me to set up an appointment and as verified all my contact information. She ended the call by making sure that I jotted down the service phone number and wishing me a pleasant day.
At the time, I think I was a bit gruff with her. As much as I enjoy hearing a girl coo “Good morning, Mr. Radel” (even if my name was mispronounced), I was insanely busy and severely sleep deprived. The last thing I wanted to think about was an oil change for my ride. And why the hell did I have to endure ANOTHER call to set up my appointment? Why couldn’t she do it for me? Ugh. I found it very frustrating.
But a full day later (and a night of about 11 hours sleep) I’ve come to appreciate VW’s efforts. With as insane as my life has been lately, I haven’t been able to think about my car and it’s needs. I’ve been selfish and only looked at it as a method to get me from one place to another during the insanity that is my personal schedule. That, and they forgot to update my little sticker in the upper left hand corner of my windshield to remind me of my next service date. I HATE that.
At any rate, I think this is a good thing. It’s nice to have your car company reach out to you and help take a bit of the pressure off you to remember when you’re due for service. I do wish I’d had the opportunity to set up the appointment then, but hey, you can’t have everything right?

Hahaha right on man. Hey, the storm is over… well temporarily at least. :D I don’t think I’ve gotten a call from VW for service reminders, but I do get a mailed notice of it for Debora’s Jetta. I think they’ve just forgotten about my GTI. Or it may have to do with different dealers since I got my GTI at Northgate VW, and we got Deb’s Jetta at Century.
