This is the 3rd VW we have owned with the same issue. The others included a 2001 Jetta GLX and a 2001 Beetle Turbo. It's about time VW looked into this. The only problems I've had to date were a couple of bad module/sensors for the ABS and Electronic Stability Control, and the module that controls the locking and alarm system. Those were all replaced under warranty (ABS/ESP in July of '05; alarm module in December of that year), and I haven't had any other problems with the car. I love my Passat...
