We have a 2006 Passat that is presently in the shop for a wheel bearing replacement. This is the 3rd VW we have owned with the same issue. The others included a 2001 Jetta GLX and a 2001 Beetle Turbo.

It's about time VW looked into this.

I have a 2005 Passat (with a 1.8 liter turbo engine and auto trans.) that rolled off the assembly line in September of '04, so the above recall doesn't apply to me. The only problems I've had to date were a couple of bad module/sensors for the ABS and Electronic Stability Control, and the module that controls the locking and alarm system. Those were all replaced under warranty (ABS/ESP in July of '05; alarm module in December of that year), and I haven't had any other problems with the car. I love my Passat...

Ditto for my '04 passat. It eats wheel bearings for breakfast and has already claimed a transmission. So far, everything has been covered by warranty. Those issues withstanding, its a fine car.
