“Dave… would you like me to drive now… Dave… are you listening, Dave?”
Our mad scientist friends across the pond have created the “53+1″, a throwback to good ol’ Herbie the Love Bug, that cute little VW Beetle that had a mind of its own. Except this time they used a MkV GTI. And in like fashion to Herbie, it drives itself. But for real.

The engineers placed radar and laser sensors inside of the grill that scan the road ahead and relay this information back to its onboard computer. A satellite navigation system works in tandem with the sensors to track the vehicle’s position.
Once the path has been negotiated, the GTI can then take off no holds barred through the course at speeds up to 150mph. o_0 Wow, driverless killing machine flying down the road, or safe, futuristic method of transportation? You can check out a video of it in action here.
