For all you modern art fiends out there, I found a great piece by Damián Ortega, whose work explores the political and cultural currency found in everday objects and images.

Damián Ortega Cosmic Thing

* From Institute of Contemporary Art:
Damián Ortega’s first United States solo museum exhibition (in 2002), Cosmic Thing, is an extended and humorous meditation on one of Mexico’s most potent symbols of Westernization and mass production: the Volkswagen Beetle. For this installation, Ortega (b. 1967, lives and works in Mexico City) employs photography and a sculptural decomposition of his personal VW Bug, suspended from ICA’s 30′ bay ceiling.

  1. I saw that in-person while in Venice in 2003, it was awesome.

  2. I would like to hang that in my living room. How cool would that be?
