Codenamed the “Station”, it will be a high end crossover vehicle that will play in the same sandbox as the R-Class.
Although Volkswagen has high hopes for high end vehicles, it just doesn’t seem to be learning from the Phaeton failure. I applaud VW for stretching out their model line-up from affordable to luxury, but is the effort worth it?

Set to debut in the 2009 model year, it will share components with the next generation Touareg and Phaeton. (Guess they aren’t stopping Phaeton production?) It will seat 7 passengers and will feature Volkswagen’s new common rail diesel technology, which will replace the current TDI generation.

I have to agree that truely high end models are a mistake for VW. I hear alot of people balk at the price tag of the Touareg, and I actually think that might kind of be worth what they’re asking. I’m glad they’re expanding thier product offerings, but they may not be expanding in the right direction.
Agreed… The whole idea of VW from the beginning has been to be “the people’s car…”
Can’t really stick to that motto when you’ve got cars in the 50+ thousand dollar range.
