Most folks here do seem to feel that way, and balk at a VW with a 67 - 100k price tag. I've even heard dealers groan about selling the "Mercedes killer." Besides, isn't that what Audi is for? Agreed. The Phaeton is one *very nice* car! It's too bad VW was forced to drop it from the U.S. line-up. Had they offered it at a lower price, I'm sure they'd have sold more over here. Of course, most Americans still see VW as a "working man's" car and not a luxury nameplate, so that factor may also have doomed the Phaeton in the United States.
