Folks at the University of California – Davis are doing something more meaningful with their doggy bags.
In short, the goal is to create cheap, renewable energy from table scraps. Using something called a “anaerobic phased solids digester”, they will generate hydrogen and methane which could be used to power cars and homes. Every ton of leftovers can produce enough energy to power 10 households for a day. Pretty groovy, huh?
I’m always interested in the pursuit of alternative energy sources, and this sounds like a nice one. The grease cars could have a run for their money, no?
