Volkswagen plans to sell the new Tiguan small SUV with a 2.0-liter turbocharged diesel engine in all 50 states, probably by late next year. That will give Volkswagen an exclusive. No other small SUVs are available in the United States with a diesel engine, which usually offers a fuel economy gain of 30 percent over a gasoline engine. Via Autoweek.com

Any word on how the price will compare against competing models (gas-powered, that is) from Honda, Toyota and Kia?
No word as far as what I’ve read on the TDI pricing, but the gasoline version is supposed to debut just under $25k. I would imagine the TDI would fall very close to that range as well. We can hope. :D
I think Mercedes ML 320 is in the same class as the Tiguan, and they have a CDI (similar to the TDI) that is available right now. I also think that the in terms of size, the Touareg is about the same as well. The price of the TDI is just a little bit higher than $25k though ;)
