Road Salt Blocks Key Fob from Functioning?

Ok, so don’t get me lying. I don’t know if this is true or not, but it seems my wife and I experienced this with her Jetta over the weekend.
We’ve had a couple big snows here in the area, and we hadn’t washed all of the salt and road grime off of our cars yet. On Friday, my wife noticed that she had to be very close (like almost touching) her Jetta to get any of the keyfob functions to work. She made the suggestion that maybe the salt was blocking something somehow and I was like, hhhmm, maybe but I don’t know about that.
Well, after we washed her car, the keyfob is magically working perfectly again. Could it be true? Anyone else experience something similar?

Haven’t had any problems with my clicker, but I did recently break the driver’s door latch on my Passat. It froze in the open position. Full story:

a hassle to bring it to the dealer, but ended up being (another) warranty covered fix.
Dood, that sucks, but thank goodness for warranty work. :]
I posted this at VWVortex, one said to check the wires…its still open…
The dealership just changed the battery in my ‘02 Passat Key FOB because it was weak. Needless to say. No change. I have seen simmilar discussions on this site. Some got really close to answering my question but did not offer the solution.
My wife is using the good one, I am stuck with the weak one.
Has anybody had simmilar experience?
I do not want to buy a new one, but….
Hmm, thanks Nelson for that info. I’ll have to check that out. We have her using the spare key for now. :]
my key is weak too but i havent changed the battery. i was hoping to see if it worked for anyone else.
