Safety Saturday

Cool idea or service scam?
Chances are, if you live near a dealer that’s participating in the Safety Saturday event, you’ve received mail or a phone call (or if you’re like me, both) about it. While I’d like to think that this is an opportunity for VW to keep it’s owners safe, the inner skeptic in me is wondering if it’s a chance to snag additional business in the service department.
Just think about it - all those ‘dub owners that don’t take their rides to the dealer could be lured back with the promise of a free inspection, where VW techs get to point out all the things that need to be done. Even better, they could tell you why whoever performed maintenance last did things incorrectly.
Maybe I’m getting ahead of myself here. Maybe VW is truely doing this out of kindness of it’s heart. The fact that only a handful of dealers across the nation (54 by my count) are participating in the event may suggest that.
If you’re participating in the event (which I cannot), just be cautious. I’m sure that there’s some good nature behind this, but I’d go in expecting a sales pitch.
