A New VW Logo?

Is VW due to refresh their logo?

I just happened to stumble across this (sorry it is fairly old) story from the autoblog:

“making the symbol larger (must be a trend) while also better separating the V and the W from the outer ring. The new look will be more 3-D, but the branding itself will retain its central location on the grille. ”

It’s rumored that VW will unveil the new logo with the Mark VI Golf (which I guess would be the second generation Rabbit here).

I dunno. Is this really needed? It seems that CEO Martin Winterkorn is just more of a tinkerer than anything. I think VW has larger issues to worry about.

  1. Don’t mess with success. They have a highly recognizable symbol and I see absolutely no reason to change.

  2. Oooh, messing with brands as strong and old as one such as Volkswagen is like letting kids play in a nuclear missile silo. It’s all fun until someone presses the wrong button. I don’t know, I don’t think I would make this change, unless they’re uber certain it’s going to be successful.

  3. Interesting idea. I’d have to agree with Dax and Jordan - leave it alone. Volkswagen is over 50 years old, the logo is recognizable around the world. Ford and Chevy have been in the industry for over 100 years, and they haven’t majorly messed with their logos - okay, they might’ve done some minor touch-ups over the years - but what company (in any industry) hasn’t touched-up their logo?

My vote - leave it alone. It’s beautiful as it is now.
