VW Recalls 410,000 Passats

Leftlane News reports that VW is recalling every gasoline powered Passat sold in the U.S. from 1999 - 2005. Ouch.

The Passats can be checked for up to three issues:

  1. Passats equipped with an automatic transmission will have their firewalls inspected, as additional shielding may need to be added by the catalytic converter.
  2. 1.8 T Passats will be checked for a faulty fuel line.
  3. All wheel drive Passats will be checked for damaged fuel tank ventilation valves.

This recall is not at all surprising, as we’re heard Passat owners tell horror stories for years. We can only hope that this massive recall will finally show VW the cost of shoddy craftmanship, and they will continue to improve their production standards.

If you have a Passat from the years listed, call you local VW dealer to schedule the work. While there have been no injuries or accidents linked to these issues, it’s best to get it taken care of sooner than later.

  1. Going 2 for 3 on that recall. Auto 1.8T Passat :)

Now if they’ll just do a recall on the “water leaking into the cabin and frying critical electronics” issue.
