Hey mauibug, I apologize for my delay in getting back to you. I'm not sure what could be going on there, but I suggest that you <a href="http://newbeetle.org/forums/"visit the NewBeetle.org Forums and ask some people there about the problem. They can give you a much more focused answer than me, I think. I hope they can get it patched up for ya!

Does the same when empty. How do I get to the latch mechanism. I've heard that it may be as easy as WD40 fix??

Hmm, is the cover pushing against the hatch door when closed, mauibug? Be sure to check the seals around the door as well as the latch mechanism and the hydraulic struts that hold it open.

My 2000 Beetle has me perplexed once again. Having had a flooded floorboard on Christmas day I was covering my bug until I resolved the problem. I keep my cover in the trunk and What once took a nice push to close the hatchback now takes three maybe four tries to close. Any idea of what might be the matter?
