Volkswagen just published a press release on the US-bound Jetta TDI and Jetta SportWagen TDI stating their introductory pricing and new 3rd party mileage estimates.
These two juicy bits of information are what you’ve all been anxiously waiting for! Me too, for that matter. Let’s get right to it.
The Jetta TDI sedan will start at a respectable $21,990 while the SportWagen will run you a small premium of $23,590. Not too shabby, methinks. This would be a done deal for me IF it was a Rabbit, not a Jetta. I’m sure it’s because the doggone Jetta is oh so popular here in the States. UGH!!! I guess people will have to learn more about the versatility of hatchbacks. :P
Now, about the new mileage estimates. Looks like Volkswagen caught wind of the rampage about the much lower EPA estimates (30/41) that were released a short time ago compared to their early estimates of 50+ mpg highway. They’ve now released a third party’s “real world” estimate which places the new TDI 24% better than the EPA’s at 38 mpg city and 44mpg highway. That sounds a lot better. Still not the 50+ though. :/
All in all, it sounds like a great deal in these gas gouging, *ahem* I mean, volatile gas pricing, times. Prep your wallets for a new oil burner!!

Volkswagen hasn’t said anything about a TDI Rabbit or Tiguan yet, have they?
Hey Mathew, I don’t believe so. If they released the Rabbit as well as or instead of the Jetta, I would 100% be buying that. :P
