Hahaha hey Betsy. :D I COMPLETELY agree with you. It is the best kept secret, and one we don't really want people to keep! I think the reason people don't go for TDI's is because here in the States we have grown up over the last few decades with a very bad view of diesels in general. The old, dirty, loud, obnoxious diesels of the 80's and even 70's maybe have turned us off as a nation.

And that in turn causes Volkswagen to shy away from marketing more because they probably think it's not worth it. I would love one myself, and if I could score a good, used one, I'd convert it over to biodiesel running vegetable oil or something for even more mileage! :D

Dan...It's me again. My 2001 Jetta is Tdi. I wouldn't drive any other car. My last Jetta Tdi had over 300K miles when I sold it to my friend, who drove it until he totaled it in a wreck. Would you please tell me why this car is the best kept secret in the USA? I tell people all the time that I get 50+ mpg and they act like they never heard such a thing before. Which they haven't because VW USA never advertises that. My brother has a 2003 Tdi Wagon and gets 52+ mpg. What's wrong with the marketing dept. of VW USA? BTW, have you test driven the new GREEN Jetta yet? I was very disappointed, in that it was heavy and slow...(had an automatic which I don't like) and the MPG was a low 43-45...too bad.
Thanks for this great website, and letting me rant. I will surely return when I have another small problem that needs expert help.
