First Major Winter Storm in Cincy: The Jetta Performs Admirably

So we’re right in the middle of getting pwned by our first major winter storm here in the tri-state area. I wasn’t pleased about it, but I made the trek into the office in downtown Cincinnati all the way from Fields-Ertel up north. For those of you unfamiliar with the area, it’s about a 20 mi. commute, give or take.
We have between 4-8 inches of snow on the ground so far, depending on what area of town you’re in, with more to come throughout the day. Normally I commute with my trusty GTI, but low profile wide tires, 17 inch wheels, and a high torque engine do not make a good time driving in the snow. (unless you’re in an open field or parking lot tearing the crap outta some donuts and spinouts) lol
So as long as my wifey doesn’t have to go anywhere today, and we’re hoping she doesn’t, I took the ol’ Jetta out to make the hike down the I-71 corridor. The little guy did excellent with the stock tires in both higher speed and slow bumper to bumper.
So here’s to hoping everyone in this storm is safe out there. Take it easy, be gentle on the brakes, and respect your fellow driver out there. Everyone wants to make it to their destination in one piece!

Ha – this is when I’m glad I walk to work (rubs it in). ;)
Seriously though, the difference is very noticeable between the low pro 17 inchers and the pizza cutters. Everyone in the Cincy area (and surrounding) be safe!
Yeah, I cut out to head home around 11:45. Got home with no probs. I most definitely will NOT be going in tomorrow. Telecommute FTW. :)
Yeah my low pro jetta tires couldn’t even get me off the street in this storm…makes me hang my head in shame everytime it snows and my jetta can’t hang with the other volkswagens…boo hoo…
